Sortera brings complex antibody engineering to biotech and pharma

Cambridge, UK – 23rd September 2026 – Sortera Bio, the Cambridge biotech pioneering Deep Screening for biologics discovery, has won the Life Science Scale-Up award at the 36th Business Weekly Awards, held at Queens’ College, Cambridge. The award recognises Sortera Bio’s transition from early-stage startup to a scaling business with growing commercial activity across biotech and pharma.

Sortera Bio engineers antibodies with complex properties for partners who are tackling the toughest therapeutic challenges. With dedicated expertise and Sortera’s Deep Screening technology, its scientists generate unprecedented discovery data at scale to rapidly build highly selective conditional activity and affinity profiles into lead candidates without rounds of sequential optimisation.

Sortera Bio spun out of the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in May 2024 to commercialise Deep Screening and is backed by £5.5 million in financing led by Cambridge Innovation Capital, with participation from AstraZeneca and BioNTech.

The award was announced by Katherine Friend of the Howard Group, alongside guest speaker Tim Minshall, Dr John C Taylor Professor of Innovation at the University of Cambridge and Head of the Institute for Manufacturing. The Business Weekly Awards, now in their 36th year, recognise the region’s leading technology and life sciences companies. Past winners in the life sciences include Abcam, Bicycle Therapeutics, Cambridge Antibody Technology and Horizon Discovery, which have gone on to achieve major global success.
